Blount County is the "Covered Bridge Capitol of Alabama" with three historical, easily accessible bridges near Capps Cove. Horton Mill Bridge (above), the highest covered bridge above water in America. Easley Covered Bridge, the oldest bridge in the county. Swann Covered Bridge, the longest covered bridge in the state.
At 1300 ft. atop Ebell Mountain, Palisades Park covers 90 acres & features four hiking trails, two pioneer cabins, a schoolhouse, aboretum and farm museum.
Rickwood Caverns State Park is the only caving park in the entire State Park System. Take a cave tour and experience the thrill of a mile of 260 million-year-old limestone underground caverns. Highland Lake offers public boat ramps, fishing and swimming facilities. Inland Lake, a 5,000 acre fishing lake, is considered to be one of the most challenging in North Alabama. Spring Valley Beach offers fishing, picnicking, a spring fed swimming pool, and water slide.
Hang gliding is fast becoming a popular sport in Blount County. Hang glider enthusiasts fly from peaks on Straight Mountain and Walkers Gap. There are a number of local 'you-pick-em' fruit and vegetable farms in the county. And three specialty farms: Circle M Western Ware & Exotic Pets, Locust Fork Ostrich & Emu Farm, and Johnson's Swan & Daylily Farm. In nearby Cullman, visitors are awed by the Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament of Our Lady of the Angels Monastery; and the Ave Maria Grotto, a 3-acre site with over 125 miniature replicas of famous churches and shrines from around the world.
